Okay, you got me. I actually can’t surf but the point is, I do regularly spend my Mon-Fri down at the beach. Oh, and did I mention I have a job that I love and allows me the flexibility (and funds) required to live a happy and fulfilled life? Yep. True story.
For the past 4 years I have been a freelancer in advertising. I have 2 young boys and now couldn’t imagine myself back in an office or full-time work. Don’t get me wrong; I’ve been there. I used to work full-time at a big advertising agency in client service and had lots of clients. It could be pretty intense but for the most part I enjoyed it. It was only when I was nearing the end of my maternity leave and I was due to go back that I quit; I just couldn’t give up that time with my son to jump back into full-time work. Then it just so happened that an ex-colleague and friend asked if I could help her out by doing some freelance work and that’s where this journey began. I initially worked only remotely and only 2 days per week but spread it over 7; that way I could manage the workload around my son. No need for expensive daycare!
And I just haven’t looked back. I’ve been fortunate to have a fairly consistent flow of work over those 4 years and to have worked with diverse and interesting people and teams. I decided it was time to share that experience with others which is why I started This Is Rocket. I can now connect my network of freelancers to businesses and agencies that want help with marketing, social, digital, SEM, SEO, offline media and basically anything within the realm of advertising.
I’m excited / nervous / all the feels and can’t wait to see where this goes.
